Full Description

As with any other industrial fabricating process, it is important that brazed joints be properly engineered. It is the function of the engineer to design the joint so that it will withstand the service conditions to which the finished assembly will be exposed. The strength and composition of base metals have a profound effect on the strength of the brazed joint; thus, this property must be clearly kept in mind when designing the joint for specific properties. Some base metals also are easier to braze than others, particularly by specific brazing processes.

From a mechanical standpoint, the design of a brazement is not really different from the design of any other part. The rules regarding load concentrations, stress risers, static and dynamic loading and fatigue that apply to machined or other fabricated parts also apply to brazed assemblies.
