Full Description

This report contains a proposed fitness-for-service procedure that is applicable to pressure vessels, piping, and storage tanks in refinery and chemical service. The methodology includes consideration of the following:Determination of the cause of the flaw(s)Methodology of inspection and inspection planning. Assessment of crack -like flawsNon-growing cracksTime-dependent crack growthAssessment of volumetric flawsLocally thinned areasBlend-ground areasBlistersSeven appendices at the end of the report provide background information on the recommended procedures, as well as reference material on fracture toughness, stress intensity factors, limit load solutions, environmental cracking mechanisms, and nondestructive evaluation.

Lastly, several recommendations on areas of future study, which are aimed at improving the existing fitness-for-service methodology are provided.

The procedures and equations in this document are consistent with Version 2.1 of the PREFIS software.
