Description / Abstract:
This scope of this Standard is limited to text messaging to
9-1-1 emergency services in the United States for Commercial Mobile

SMS-like texting applications is beyond the scope of this
Standard.
Purpose
The purpose of this Standard is to define the requirements,
architecture, and procedures for text messaging to 9- 1-1 emergency
services using native CMSP SMS or MMS capabilities for the existing
generation and next generation (NG9-1-1) Public Safety Answering
Points (PSAPs).
