Description / Abstract:
Purpose of This Document
This document sets forth the characteristics of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Landing System Sensor Unit (GLSSU) with a built-in VHF Data Broadcast (VDB) receiver. The intent of this document is to provide general and specific design guidance for the development of GLSSU for airline use. It describes the desired operational capability of the GLSSU and the standards necessary to ensure interchangeability.
To enable Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) functionality, the ARINC 743B GLSSU sensor requires externally provided GBAS data, typically provided by an external Very High Frequency (VHF) Data Broadcast (VDB) receiver. The GLSSU does not have a self-contained GBAS or Ground-Based Regional Augmentation System (GRAS) capability.
Therefore, this ARINC Standard defines a GLSSU that integrates the GLSSU sensor and a VDB receiver to create a new GLSSU-VDB sensor that enables a selfcontained GBAS or GRAS functionality. This new GLSSU sensor will be referred to as the GLSSU-VDB sensor.
All requirements pertaining to the GLSSU sensor will apply to the GLSSU-VDB sensor, only the sensor requirements unique to the GLSSU-VDB sensor will be stated explicitly and separately (e.g., VDB receiver requirements).
Physically, the GLSSU and GLSSU-VDB sensors are nearly identical except for the fact that the GLSSU-VDB sensor has an additional VDB RF-connector. The power, weight, and mass distribution are also different.
The intent of this document is to introduce the requirements per RTCA DO-229E and RTCA DO-253D.
