Scope
This standard establishes a) the requirements that describe the technical performance of down-the-road radar (DTR radar) and b) the test methods for measuring the ability of DTR radar to meet these performance requirements. This standard applies to any DTR radar used in traffic speed measurement applications.
Purpose
The primary purpose of this standard is to ensure that theree are a well-defined set of specifications and test methods so they can be used to understand, describe, and compare the performance of down-the-road radar.
Abstract
New IEEE Standard - Active. This standard establishes baseline performance requirements and associated test procedures for down-the-road (DTR) traffic radar speed-measuring devices. These DTR radar devices transmit modulated or unmodulated continuous-wave (CW) microwave energy, receive the signal reflected from moving vehicles within the microwave beam, process the Doppler shift of the reflected signal to measure and display the speed of the vehicle that is being tracked, and if applicable, the speed of the patrol vehicle. This document does not apply to unmanned radar speed-measuring devices, automated speed enforcement, or DTR radar range measurements.
