1 Scope
[Replace the first paragraph with the following]
The object of this Part 1 Standard is to specify general electrical safety requirements for certain products.
The requirements of this Standard apply to a specific end-use product when it is explicitly referred to by that product standard. Each individual product standard may supplement, modify, or omit a general rule in the Part 1 Standard to provide the relevant requirements for each type of product.
This Standard deals with the safety of electrical appliances for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 600 V for other appliances.
This Standard applies to the safety of such equipment designed to be installed and used in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. The application of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, is not to be superseded by any Part 2 IEC Standard.
Note 1A: Manufacturers designing products for use in Canada may find a helpful summary of the equipment-related requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, in CSA SPE-2000.
