Availability date:
Presents the latest developments in the basic science and technology of welding and general descriptions of processes. Additionally, there are chapters on the physics of welding and cutting; heat flow; welding metallurgy; design; test methods; residual stress; welding symbols; tooling and positioning; monitoring and control; mechanized, automated, and robotic techniques; economics; weld quality; inspection; qualification and certification; welding codes and standards; and safe practices.
Scope : This chapter introduces the basic concepts of the conventional and more widely used joining, cutting, and thermal spraying processes. The distinguishing features of the various processes are summarized and compared to one another. Among the joining processes reviewed are the electric arc, resistance, and solid-state welding processes as well as brazing, soldering, and adhesive bonding. The cutting processes examined include thermal and nonthermal methods of material removal. Thermal spray processes, including flame spraying (FLSP), plasma arc spraying, arc spraying, and detonation flame spraying, will also be reviewed in this chapter
