Description / Abstract:
FORD WD951, 2019 Edition, July 12, 2019 - MECHANICAL AND PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS OF (-0-) CASE HARDENED THREAD ROLLING SCREWS
This standard specifies the requirements for case hardened and tempered thread rolling screws. It relates to standard Taptite II® screws, metric series, intended for parts up to and including M5. For parts above M5, Taptite screws with induction-hardened points per WD 952 are recommended.
Case hardened fasteners should not be used in tensile applications as the high surface hardness makes the screw susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement from manufacturing and environmental sources.
An additional “XD” lubricant per WX 100 may be released with the finish to reduce installation torque or unwanted noise on installation.
