The electrical grid is rapidly changing due to increasing amounts of variable power generation resources, greater adoption of electric vehicles, advancements in smart building technology, and aging utility infrastructure. Grid-interactive efficient buildings (GEB) have been proposed to address such issues by enabling buildings to act as distributed energy resources, while further enabling decarbonization of the building sector. GEBs present a new set of modeling challenges from traditional buildings. GEB models require different spatial and temporal scales, dynamic interaction between buildings and the grid, and complex baseline development. This session presents recent advancements in the field of GEB modeling and analysis.
