The purpose of this standard is to establisha specification for manufactured mineral typeabrasive materials used with pressure blastingequipment. The abrasives are generally usedfor blast cleaning metal surfaces to removescale, rust, paint, encrusted sand, dirt, andother foreign material, and to prepare surfacesfor applied finishes such as paints, plasmaspray, and metal plating. This specificationis intended to replace the current A-A-59316Commercial Item Description (CID) in use forAluminum Oxide and Silicon Carbide.
